San Mateo Daily Journal Endorses Rob Newsom for Re-Election!
The San Mateo Daily Journal has released its endorsements for the 2026 election, and has enthusiastically endorsed Rob Newsom for re-election! The DJ cites Rob's strong representation of ALL residents, willingness to listen and compromise, and creative problem solving skills are "a mark of a true leader". Importantly, they subtly note a key difference between Rob and his opponent: "There is a big difference between activism and civil service" - we couldn't agree more.
Full text: "In District 3, Rob Newsom doesn’t share Nash’s speed dial mentality but can get things done in his own right and illustrates a strong sense of ensuring everyone’s needs are met. In his work on the Delaware Street bicycle lane proposal, he showed that meeting people where they are, listening, compromising and coming up with creative solutions can stem controversy and produce wins. This is a mark of a true leader. Rather than using information to advance an agenda, Newsom uses it make sure more people are being served and can feel good about the direction of the city. Progress is made in the middle, and this is where Newsom shines. He understands that policy should be adapted to people rather than people adapted to policy. There is a big difference between activism and civil service, and Newsom’s heart is in the latter where a councilmember needs to operate and finds the most success."
